Meme: what has God been teaching me?
I’ve been tagged by ElShaddai Edwards from “He is Sufficient” for a meme started by Roger Mugs. Hope I’ve understood correctly what this is about — it’s my first one!
In an effort to keep it simple, short, and easy to follow, I’d like to challenge you to quote one verse (not one chapter). And then say what the Lord has been teaching you in one sentence (not one paragraph). Then tag 5 peeps (you know the drill).
I’m going to follow ElShaddai’s lead, and break the meme rule by quoting two verses: They form a single sentence and make less sense on their own.
He lived there for two whole years at his own expense and welcomed all who came to him, proclaiming the kingdom of God and teaching about the Lord Jesus Christ with all boldness and without hindrance.
– Acts 28:30-31 (NRSV)
I’ve been struggling with my health recently and it has begun to have quite an impact on my public, Church-based, ministry: these verses helped me to understand that that doesn’t mean it has to end, it can be different.
Now the hard bit, because I’m not sure how many regular readers I might have. To continue the meme, I will tag the following bloggers:
- Becca Sibley — I’m Bloggging This
- Tom Fisher — Blended Worship
- Steve Hearn — Pencil Dreams
- Bishop Alan Wilson — Bishop Alan’s Blog
- If you’re reading this, and not on this list, then you’re tagged too!

Andrew Gosden (now 16) has been missing from his Doncaster home since 14 September 2007. The search continues.
Oh I have been tagged! Paul, my health has been up and down this past year, nothing too serious but I am now on tablets until the end….! Funny how you get to the point of having wisdom and then the body lets you down, I think they call it getting old! Blah! Well I have found that I can learn much from God when I look into the small mundane areas of life. It is a reality check when you can see how housework is a way of praying to the Lord. When washing up the dishes is a sacrifice that pleases him more than jumping around at Church on a Sunday morning! The Father wants to get close to us in the small things of life so we can understand Him more and then go out and strengthen others in His Love. My work as a cartoonist allows me to spend a lot of time with everyday people and there I can express my life in a Christ like way and by that I mean to love them as children of God. So when I meet gay people I laugh and joke with them and treat them like they are my brother or sister, they are loved by God and I have to show that love in my actions. So my prayer is that through my interaction with them for a few moments, they will feel loved and even if they do not realise it is Christ’s love, it will have planted a seed into their lives. Touching hearts is what it can be about when sharing with others. I hardly ever mention God or the name of Jesus, I simply live out the Love of Yeshua to them. The Holy Spirit can do the rest as it is His work to draw them in Love to conviction of sin. So I have learnt to give it over to the Holy Spirit and trust in the Lord to do the work. Blessings all over you and may the Holy Spirit flow through every cell and nucleus of yours to bring refreshed life to you, Selah…. Amen and praise to Yeshua
Thanks for those thoughts Steve.
I do agree about finding God in the mundane areas of life. It’s so easy to get caught up in looking for God in the spectacular. Words from 1 Kings come to mind:
For a large chunk of my working life I worked in various shops. I mostly found it a great pleasure working with the public — there were always some customers that could make life less comfortable. I can imagine it must be a real joy doing what you do sometimes. And would agree that you don’t have to be talking about God or Jesus all of the time to be able to share his love with others — you probably wouldn’t get as much work if you did.
May God continue to bless you, and to work through you.
