Archbishop’s Reflections on Lent

The Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams, reflects on Lent as a time to: “Sweep and clean the room of our own minds and hearts so that the new life really may have room to come in and take over and transform us at Easter”.

I have always tried to see it as just that, a chance to give my mind a new aspect of faith to dwell upon, something that challenges me, usually it turns out to be the fact of my lack of being a good christian, my lack of love for the Father but I know that He understands and never stops loving me. But I like to think about the issues that face us currently, problems of division in the synod over some hot topics and the such like… can I understand how the people feel and think on both sides? They are all loved by God. Selah.

I had plans for this Lent; but it has started badly for me. My ongoing health issues took a nose-dive during the night Monday, and into the early hours of Tuesday morning — just as I felt things were really beginning to pick up again. Needless to say, my plans have had to change.

I think your last statement is an important one to hang onto Steve, “They are all loved by God”.

I do rather like your plan to think and pray about the issues currently causing division. Always in the light of that last statement.

      Thanks Steve. :)
