God Speed

God Speed

Enjoy!

Three nuns out walking together were discussing what each would do if she found a £20 note in the road.

One said she would give it to the convent. Another promised it to the foreign missions. The third, a young sister, said she would give it to the first poor person that she saw.

Before they had gone very far, this last nun did in fact find such a note, and seeing a tramp-like figure loitering on the pavement, she thrust the note into his hand, bidding him, “God Speed”.

The next day, the portress at the convent was surprised to find this same character at the door asking for the young nun. His description was too vague and the portress was hesitant.

“It’s most important that you find her,” said the man. “Yesterday she gave me £20 to put on ‘God Speed’, and it romped home at fifty to one!”
