I have been listening to works by the composer John Rutter quite a lot recently. There was a time in my life that I would never have thought I could possibly say such a thing. This is, after all, choral music. And I was much more into something altogether louder and faster. But maybe I’m mellowing with age. One of my favourite pieces is Requiem.
I found a set seven of videos (below), one for each movement, on YouTube featuring the Monteverdichi Choir from Würzburg, which really do the music justice.
First Movement: Requiem aeternam
The recording shows the Monteverdi Choir Würzburg with its conductor Matthias Beckert at the memorial concert on March 16, 2008 in the Augustinerkirche commemorating the 63rd anniversary of the bombing of Würzburg.
Second Movement: Psalm 130 — Out of the deep
Third Movement: Pie Jesu
Fourth Movement: Sanctus — Benedictus
Fifth Movement: Agnus Dei
Sixth Movement: Psalm 23 — The Lord is my shepherd
Seventh Movement: Lux aeterna
