This is the third in a series of posts about ‘Love’ from the Daily Meditations of Fr. Richard Rohr. In this one he talks about that which is at the very core of our being — our deepest identity.
What is my deepest identity?
Love alone of all things is sufficient unto itself. It is its own end, its own merit, its own beginning, and its own satisfaction. It seeks no cause beyond itself and needs no fruit outside of itself. Its fruit is its use. I love simply because I am love. That is my deepest identity. I am created in and for and because of love. I came forth from a God who is love (1 John 4:16), and share in that divine identity. Without love, I will never know who I am, or who God is, or why the universe was created.

Mantra:
Be in love
A few words: but words that say so much, and inspire so much. “I am created in and for and because of love”. It doesn’t matter who we are, or what we think we’ve done or achieved, or not done or failed at. None of that will change one iota how God feels about us. He loves us. He loves you, and he loves me, no matter how much you or I might think that that isn’t possible, and no matter what you or I might do to try and prove that that isn’t possible. We are “created in and for and because of love”.
The email this came from was one of Fr. Richard Rohr’s Daily Meditations. If you would like to subscribe too, and I can recommend them, the website is here: The Center for Action and Contemplation. It won’t cost you anything.
